The core of a successful, intimate, long-term relationship includes; finding out what makes your partner feel loved so that you can express love in that way; maintaining unconditional regard or acceptance for each other; forgiving when you feel hurt -- even by past infidelity; and showing mutual appreciation. Knowing how your partner wants affection and giving it, and asking for what you need are also essential to being a couple, whether married or not. In my counseling with you, I'll remind you of these basics and teach you active communication until you clearly understand what your partner is saying, accept it and negotiate any needed solutions that leave neither of you feeling like a loser. I'll help you remember to follow through on what you say you'll do and consistently consider what's good for you as a couple.

Counseling sessions tend to include cognitive behavioral therapy (
CBT); choosing more realistic and helpful thoughts until they become habits of thinking. In couples, or marriage, counseling, I act as an objective advocate for the state of being a couple, as well as an intermediary towards meeting the needs and preferences for the individuals within that couple. This is a practical, interactive type of counseling that's effective for many couples. You can improve your intimacy, communicate better, solve problems as they arise and
even revive your love -- it's probably not gone; it just needs attention.

This is couples counseling that works because it's practical, meaning that you will learn active communication, listening and problem-solving skills to practice and use on a regular basis. I'll also help you develop habits of affection, acceptance and acknowledgement of each other, often a prerequisite to any other focus. Your "coupledom," as well as each of you individually, will be carefully considered in couples counseling with me and you'll learn to always keep it in mind. If cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) seems like it would be helpful, I'll suggest it and teach you how to use it so that more positive and rational thoughts become automatic as your dysfunctional core beliefs are changed. If you're trying to work through past infidelity issues, I'll help you build trust in your coupledom through clear steps to genuine reconciliation.

My couples counseling sessions also tend to be fun and I'll always be frank with you.

    Gay and lesbian couples welcome.
